The lengths Jean will go to for his art are nothing compared to the lengths he'll go to for his reputation among his peers. Letting Go – 3 min - Scotia, NY filmmaker Dan Masucci's touching tale of a boy and his blanket has won several awards and screened in over a dozen festivals. Interrogation – 9 min Scotia --wait Scotia again? who knew Scotia was such a hot bed of film? --student filmmaker Jason Roberts sweats the suspects in this hard boiled crime drama with a surprising twist. Escape finale – 20 min - Schenectady filmmaker Mike Feurstein directs 30 local students ages 5-15 in this sci-fi thriller shot entirely in the capital region including Scotia. Ballston Spa filmmaker Daniel DeFabio's documentary brings to life the
story of one woman's summer in Ballston in the year 1800. NOTE: This film is not in competition for festival awards. Oh Sammy – 5 min - Los Angeles comedian Susan Demming offers a hilarious look at the perils of daycare in out post-9/11 world. Winner: Atom Films Upload This! The Cobbler -15 min - Directed by Minnie Tran and written by Voorheesville, NY native Bernie Schallehn. This short film stars Randall Duk Kim (The Keymaker in The Matrix Reloaded). This quirky comedy may touch you somewhere deep in your stomach. Flora & Thieves - 3 min - London filmmaker Xanthe Hamilton juxtaposes serenely beautiful visuals with a disturbing true crime story. Scapegoats - 9 min - Los Angeles Writer Director Jesse Lawler shows there's three sides to every story. When a roommate messes up the kitchen someone has to take the fall. New Detroit – 15 min - Ben Bowman of NYU's Film Department crafts a gorgeously grim and twistedly funny vision of a retro-bureaucratic future in which we've extinguished the sun and must find an alternative. Pump Action – 5 min – Los Angeles comedian Laura Park vows to rid the city of crime one squirt at a time. 2007 Winner of the Boston Comedy Festival Film Contest. Laura appears with Jessica Lange in the current release Bonneville. Tuesday – 9 min - One day blends into the next until Tuesday changes everything. This delightful charming story from 19 year old St. Louis filmmaker Emily Kathryn Curry won the Samsung Fresh Film's Independent Spirit award. Against the Wind – 9 min - With gorgeous visuals Scotia filmmaker Dan Masucci takes us inside the mind of a man facing the twilight of his years. Portrait of a Pensive Lady – 5 min Los Angeles Writer Director Mark Tapio Kines shows what it might be like to have your portrait done by a Dutch master. Mark's feature films include Serial Slayer aka Claustrophobia and Foreign Correspondents. The Angry Bunny – 15 min This documentary from 20 year old Ballston Spa filmmaker Vinny Tucceri chronicles the many obstacles a young woman had to overcome in her short life and continues on to her current path of healing herself. Lone - 6 min Los Angeles Writer Director Actress Christina Beck shows us that a good massage can be liberating. She has been seen in Boys Next Door and Suburbia. She was accepted into Fox Searchlight's new directors program. A Family Burden – 5 min - Grafton, NY 21 year old filmmaker Jack Durnin's short film was named "Film of the Week" by MTV's Best Film on Campus 2007. This mob tale of revenge and responsibility shows the heavy burden of a family legacy. God Provides – 8:30 min - From Brian Cassidy and Melanie Schatzky this unconventional documentary depicts the unsettling aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. 2007 Sundance selection. It's Just Coffee – 15 min - Ballston Spa filmmaker Daniel DeFabio's comic look at the downside of online dating stars Wayne Wilderson (the WaMu banker and the Fruit of the Loom purple grape) and Emmy Winner Maile Flannagan. NOTE: This film is not in competition for festival awards. Horse for Sale – 22 min - Ontario filmmaker Katarzyna Kochany's script Horse for Sale won several screen writing competitions. Shot on a horse rescue facility, this film shows how two sisters struggle to part with a beloved stallion. The Anniversary Present – 8 min - NYC based Writer Director Doug Karr shows us a devoted new husband --perhaps too devoted-- pushed too far in this surprising comedy. The New Kid – 5 min Ballston Spa High School Freshman Jacob McAuliffe tells this gruesome tale through inventive use of POV camera and flashbacks to remind us not to trust a stranger even if he's a kid. The Pearce Sisters – 9 min - This grim animated short from Aardman Animation won the 2007 BAFTA award for animated short. British Animator and Director Louis Cook shows what two spinsters do to survive their dreary coastal life. Breaking Up – 6 min - Troy, NY Writer Director Jeff Burns teamed with the Independent Artists Collaborative of Kingston, NY to make this comic look at how bad cell reception can wreck havoc on a relationship. Parenthesis – 14 min What's a guy gotta do to get some condoms? Shot in Brooklyn by bi-coastal...more like international... comic Clara Bijl. Clara has appeared on Holland's Comedy Factory TV show and writes for the Swiss TV show Le Petit Silvant Illustre'. Jink – 5.5 min Ballston Spa High School seniors David Veet and Tim Iannon bring a fresh eye for action and an ear for driving soundtracks to this story of a guy trying to evade killers and cops. Shot in Saratoga and Ballston Spa. No Smoking – 10 min What's the harm in checking out a hot girl while driving? You'll find out in Indianapolis high school junior Matthew Herbertz' dark comedy about teenage driving that takes a very wrong turn. Jakarta Boom Boom – 13 min - Mad TV writer Rich Talarico turns Writer Producer Actor in Chicago based Director Leroy Koetz' short film. Three traveling business men had better hope what happens in Jakarta stays in Jakarta. Watch a teaser trailer of three of these films. |
